Celebrities often shoot to stardom based on a special talent—acting, singing, sport… But sometimes, that special something is a little more physical. If their fame is helped by a unique feature, celebs might decide to get insurance to protect their smile, legs or just about any other body part you can think of!

Here are 10 insurance policies that celebrities took out on their famous body parts:

1. Merv Hughes – Moustache

It’s a tossup what Merv Hughes is best known for: his antics on the pitch or his handlebar moustache. Hughes is rumoured to have insured his famous whiskers for £200,000, something he denied in 2013.

2. Julia Roberts – Smile

This American actress has a famous smile, so it’s no wonder she’d want to protect it. Roberts reportedly insured her dazzling grin for a whopping $46 million!

3. Ben Turpin – Eyes

Celebrities insuring body parts isn’t a passing fad. In fact, the first body part policy may have been issued back in the 1920s. Silent film star Ben Turpin covered his famously crossed eyes for $38,000—just in case they ever uncrossed themselves!

4. David Beckham – Legs

The English football star insured his legs (and the rest of his body) for £100 million in 2006. This may be the largest personal insurance policy in sports history and was rumoured to be split amongst several companies.

5. Kylie Minogue – Bum

Aussie pop star Minogue is rumoured to have a $7.6 million insurance policy on her shapely bum. This rather unique policy was supposedly inspired by the video for her 2000 hit song ‘Spinning Around,’ in which she wears some rather tiny golden hot pants!

6. Bruce Springsteen – Vocal chords

When you have a unique set of pipes, like The Boss, it might pay to insure them. Bruce Springsteen did just that, taking out a $9.1 million insurance policy to cover his gravelly voice.

7. Bette Davis –  Waist

Her eyes may have inspired a hit pop song, but it’s Bette Davis’ waistline that was deemed important enough to insure. Miss Davis reportedly took out a $43,000 insurance policy against weight gain during the height of her career.

8. Keith Richards – Hands

The Rolling Stones guitarist has referred to his hands as “the business,” so it makes sense that he’d want to insure them. Richards has a $2.4 million insurance policy on his music makers.

9. Jimmy Durante – Nose

This American actor and comedian was famous for having a large nose, earning him the nickname “The Great Schnozzola” during the 1930s. Wanting to protect his biggest asset, Durante insured his honker for $76,000.

10. Tom Jones – Chest hair

It’s not unusual to get insurance—unless it’s to protect chest hair. The Welsh crooner is rumoured to have taken a $7 million USD policy on his, though he denies it. Jones was quoted in an interview saying, “I’d shave my own bloody chest hair off for seven million dollars.”
